Carbon Accounting Software for Sustainability Consultants and Advisory Firms

Sustainability consultants running climate disclosure engagements across ten, twenty, fifty clients cannot scale on a spreadsheet-per-client model any more. AASB S2 Group 2 goes live on 1 July 2026 and every mid-market client wants a defensible NGER + AASB S2 submission that survives ASSA 5010 reasonable assurance. Carbonly is built to be the platform underneath a consulting practice - multi-tenant switch between client workspaces, per-project pricing so an SME client fits the same platform an ASX-listed reporter uses, MCP server and API for automation, and Auditor Workspace so the client hands their assurance provider a self-service walk-through.

What changes for sustainability consultants and advisory firms

  • One consulting workspace, N client tenants - each fully isolated with its own audit trail, factor library, users, and reporting periods
  • Switch between client tenants in one click from the web UI, from ChatGPT or Claude via the MCP server, or from your own tools via the API
  • Per-project pricing (Small, Medium, Large, Enterprise) with a $100/month workspace minimum, so a starter client fits on the same platform as an ASX-listed reporter - you never have to migrate a client mid-engagement
  • White-label export of NGER submissions, AASB S2 disclosures, and Executive Summary documents branded for the client
  • Auditor Workspace: give the client's assurance provider a dedicated read-only login that steps through any reporting period, one-click generates an ASSA 5010-ready Evidence Pack, and never touches your consulting workspace
  • AI document engine that reads supplier invoices, fuel dockets, utility bills, and delivery notes in eight file formats so junior consultants spend hours on judgment, not on data entry
  • Supplier Portal and Supplier Data Chase Agent for Scope 3 Category 1 supplier engagement across your client's value chain - you configure once, chase runs continuously

What the system does

  • Multi-tenant architecture with hard organisational isolation - client data never crosses a workspace boundary, verified by IDOR canary tests on every router
  • MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets you connect ChatGPT, Claude Desktop, or any MCP-compatible AI assistant to any client workspace with OAuth 2.1 + PKCE, then use ask_copilot, take_action, upload_document, check_compliance, generate_report and email_report tools to work across the whole portfolio from one chat
  • API and outbound webhooks so a consulting practice with its own tooling can push and pull emissions data programmatically per client tenant
  • Per-supplier extraction templates auto-derived after five sample invoices - the second Boral or Ampol invoice from a new client extracts in one click because the platform learned the layout from your first client
  • Trust Graduation and Learning Velocity visible per-material per-tenant - junior consultants see which materials are still low-confidence and need senior review
  • Full audit trail with 27+ typed event kinds, content fingerprints on every source document, seven-year retention, and factor version pinning per NGA edition (2024, 2025) so the auditor sees exactly what was applied and when
  • JV consolidation with operational, financial, and equity-share methods - critical for consulting engagements at resources, infrastructure, and property groups

Frequently asked

Do we get one consulting workspace with client tenants inside it, or one workspace per client?

Both patterns work. Most consulting practices run a single consulting workspace with multiple client organisations inside, each fully isolated. Larger engagements often run a dedicated per-client workspace that the client owns after handover. Switching a client from consultant-owned to client-owned is a role change, not a data migration.

How does the MCP server work across many clients?

Connect Claude Desktop or a ChatGPT connector once with OAuth. The switch_context tool lets the AI assistant see the list of client tenants you have access to and move between them. Ask "what were Client A's Q3 emissions" then "generate an NGER report for Client B and email it to me" without opening a browser. Every action is audited under both your consultant identity and the target client tenant.

Can we white-label the NGER submission and AASB S2 disclosure for the client?

Yes. Report generation supports client logo, client-specific submission references, and the consulting firm attribution optional. The Evidence Pack export bundles source documents, factor versions, and the audit trail branded for the client, ready to hand to their assurance provider.

What happens when we hand a client engagement over to their in-house team?

Change the workspace ownership and role assignments. The audit trail, factor library, source documents, and reporting periods stay intact and remain accessible to the client. Consulting-firm users can retain read-only access if the client wants ongoing advisory support.

Do we position against sustainability consultants or with them?

With them. Every blog on this site is written on the assumption that consultants are buyers of the platform. Carbonly is the extraction engine, factor library, and audit trail underneath the consulting workflow. The strategy, materiality assessments, transition planning, and stakeholder engagement remain the consultant's work.
