Your Carbon Reporting, Done.

Scope 1 is the easy part. Carbonly turns the hard evidence, including subcontractor invoices, concrete dockets, EPDs, freight and waste records, into quantity-based Scope 3 you can trace back to the source document. Not spend-based estimates you cannot defend to an auditor. Built for NGER reporters and ASRS Group 2 companies.

Carbonly.ai is Australian carbon accounting software built for NGER submission, AASB S2 climate disclosure and Safeguard Mechanism tracking. It builds Scope 1, 2 and 3 from source documents rather than spend estimates: subcontractor invoices, concrete and material dockets, EPDs, freight manifests, waste transfer notes and utility bills. It extracts the physical activity data, matches it to the correct Australian emission factor or EPD, and keeps every reported number traceable to its source document for the Clean Energy Regulator and your assurance provider.

Frameworks live today

Supported by AWS Startups and Google for Startups. NGER, AASB S2, Safeguard Mechanism, and Climate Active configured for Australian reporters today. Built on GHG Protocol foundations.

Spend-based carbon accounting won't survive your audit

The GHG Protocol ranks spend-based data at the bottom of its Scope 3 hierarchy, below supplier-specific, hybrid, and average-data methods. ASSA 5010 moves Australian climate disclosures to reasonable assurance for reporting periods starting 1 July 2030.

Your auditor will want to see physical activity data, traced to a source document. Not dollars times an industry average.

We read the invoices your finance team already has

Every concrete delivery, subcontractor invoice, freight bill and material invoice already contains the physical quantity. Tonnes, cubic metres, tonne-kilometres, kilograms.

Carbonly's AI document engine extracts the activity from every line, runs a five-tier matching cascade against your emission factor library, and applies the right factor. Your sustainability team stops chasing internal teams for quantity data. The auditor sees a clean trail from invoice line to emission record.

Carbonly also exposes a Model Context Protocol server, so the AI assistant your team already uses can query emissions, generate board packs, and run audit traces in natural language, with the same role-based permissions.

The work is already done when you log in

1. Collect

Every subcontractor invoice, concrete docket, EPD, waste record and utility bill flows in automatically from email, OneDrive, or SharePoint. Each project gets its own email address. No login needed from site managers.

2. Verify

Carbonly extracts the physical quantity from every line, runs five-tier material matching to the right emission factor for your jurisdiction, and runs it through data quality checks. Every record is traceable to a source document.

3. Approve

NGER, AASB S2, Safeguard Mechanism, and Climate Active reports pre-populated from live data. Directors see exactly what the auditor will see. Review exceptions, approve, submit.

Built from more than 15 years inside Australian industry

Carbonly is built from more than 15 years of enterprise data engineering across Australian resources, energy and industrial operations. We shipped the same NGER reports you do, chased the same missing supplier dockets, sat through the same assurance interviews.

A construction group collects more supplier documents in a quarter than a sustainability team can key by hand, in formats that change from supplier to supplier. That is the workload the document engine is designed to absorb, with every line traced to a source document and a full NGER and AASB S2 trail on every record.

Why this is not just another carbon tool

Scope 1 is arithmetic. Scope 3 is a data problem, and it is the one that fails assurance. Six things follow from building for the data problem first.

We read the invoice instead of the ledger

Many tools multiply a dollar figure from your accounting system by an industry average. That fails at audit when the litres were on the docket all along. Buy lower-carbon concrete and your reported number actually moves. A spend-based factor cannot show that, because the dollars did not change.

Joint ventures, sorted three ways at once

Operational control for NGER. Financial control for AASB S2. Equity share for the board pack. One ledger, three consolidations, computed from a single equity formula with the unadjusted total shown alongside.

The matching learns from your corrections

When a reviewer corrects a match or assigns a material to an unmatched line, the line text is saved as an alias on that material for your organisation only. Later documents with the same wording match through it, and low-confidence matches still go to a reviewer.

Evidence, not just numbers

The verbatim source line is stored separately from the resolved value, with the unit and date transformations recorded as their own provenance. The emission factor, the GWP set and the NGER method are snapshotted onto the row at confirm time, so a restatement does not lose the basis of the original submission.

Built for NGER and AASB S2 together

Both statutory arms of the NGER threshold are evaluated, emissions and energy, at facility and corporate group level. NGER uses the AR5 global warming potentials set in regulation 2.02 of the NGER Regulations, and Carbonly calculates on AR5. AASB S2 references AR6, so confirm which basis each disclosure needs.

Your AI assistant can query it directly

Carbonly exposes a Model Context Protocol server, so the assistant your team already uses can ask questions of your own emissions data over an authenticated endpoint with OAuth 2.1, per-tier permissions and revocable sessions. No export to a spreadsheet first, no shared static credential.

Frequently asked questions

What is Carbonly.ai?

Australian carbon accounting software for NGER submission, AASB S2 climate disclosure and Safeguard Mechanism tracking. It builds Scope 1, 2 and 3 from source documents rather than spend estimates, and keeps every reported number traceable to the document it came from.

Why does spend-based Scope 3 fail under assurance?

The GHG Protocol ranks spend-based data at the bottom of its Scope 3 hierarchy. A spend-derived number cannot show a reduction when you buy the same dollar value of a lower-carbon material, and it gives an assurance provider nothing to trace back to a source document.

Which global warming potentials does Carbonly use?

Carbonly calculates on the AR5 values NGER sets in regulation 2.02 of the NGER Regulations, including a single methane value of 28. AASB S2 references AR6; the platform writes AR5 only. Figures such as 2,088 for R-410A are AR4 and are not NGER values.

Does Carbonly work for sectors other than construction?

Yes. Construction is where the material-diversity problem is sharpest, so it is where the document engine was hardened first. The same engine is used for mining and resources, property, logistics and freight, utilities, government, education, healthcare and financial services.

What does it cost?

A monthly account keeping fee plus a per-project licence. No per-seat fees, so adding a reviewer does not increase the bill.

ASRS Group 2 starts 1 July 2026

NGER reporters not captured by Group 1 fall into ASRS Group 2. The first AASB S2 reporting period begins 1 July 2026. Limited assurance under ASSA 5010 applies from Year 1. Directors sign off personally under the Corporations Act. Reasonable assurance takes over from 1 July 2030.
